Drive Overview
The Allen-Bradley 20BP140A0ANNANC0 PowerFlex 700 AC Drive is built for industrial applications where motor power, controllability, and long-term system integration are important considerations.
At the heart of the configuration is its 140 A output rating. This gives the drive enough capacity for larger industrial motors while retaining the flexible parameter structure and control functions of the PowerFlex 700 family.
The model operates from a 540 VDC pre-charge input. Because it is a DC-input configuration, the overall system design needs to account for the DC source, pre-charge circuit, disconnecting means, protective devices, grounding, and DC-bus safety procedures.
The drive uses vector control with 24 V DC I/O. One of its strengths is the ability to provide sensorless vector control without requiring an encoder. For many industrial applications, this offers an attractive balance between control performance and installation simplicity.
Sensorless vector operation is especially useful for applications where the motor must maintain reasonably stable speed while the load changes. Proper motor data entry and tuning are important because the quality of vector control depends heavily on accurate motor parameters.
The drive can achieve approximately 0.1% speed regulation across a 120:1 operating range in vector-control mode without feedback. This makes it a strong option for many conveyors, pumps, fans, mixers, and process machines that do not require true closed-loop positioning.
The 20BP140A0ANNANC0 also provides programmable acceleration and deceleration functions. Two separate acceleration and deceleration values can be configured, allowing the engineer to establish different operating profiles depending on the machine state or process requirement.
The drive provides 110% overload capability for up to one minute and 150% overload capability for up to three seconds. These capabilities should be considered alongside the actual motor load, ambient temperature, duty cycle, and application requirements when selecting the drive.
An EMC filter with common-mode choke is included in this configuration. This helps manage electromagnetic interference, but proper installation remains essential. Shielding, grounding, motor-cable routing, cabinet layout, and separation of control and power wiring all contribute to overall EMC performance.
The drive does not contain an internal brake resistor or brake IGBT. If the connected load has substantial regenerative energy during deceleration, an external braking or regenerative arrangement may be required.
The PowerFlex 700 20B family was discontinued on November 30, 2023. The 20BP140A0ANNANC0 therefore remains particularly relevant for existing-system maintenance, replacement, retrofit, repair, and spare-parts applications. When sourcing a replacement, matching the complete catalog number is important because similarly rated PowerFlex models can have different input, feedback, braking, communication, and control configurations.
